International Space Salon: How Astronauts Get Haircuts

Screengrab from Vine video posted by Terry W. Virts

Having a bad hair day is space could be... well quite literally 'hair raising'... and NASA astronauts ensure that a salon-trim is not light-years away even on the International Space Station.

A female astronaut got a hair cut by her colleague, while floating through space in what almost looks like a scientific salon.

In a Vine video, Commander Terry Virts gives 37 year old Samantha Cristoforetti a haircut.

As the astronaut's short dark crop is trimmed into shape, the video shows how she uses a vacuum, probably to prevent stray hairs from floating away.

Terry shared the video on Twitter, joking that he now has an alternate career option.

The video has been watched nearly 60,000 times.

Virts clearly did a very good job.

Terry Virts and Cristoforetti are currently on a six-month mission with Expedition 43 to the International Space Station. They are set to return to Earth on May 14.

A few years back, Bobak Ferdowsi, the Nasa astronaut who was part of the Nasa's Curiosity rover mission became an internet sensation after he shared a picture of his red-tinged mohawk haircut, with yellow stars dyed above his ears.

Soon, there were memes on him, he started trending on Twitter, and he instantly became a social media celebrity.
