Man kills wife, kid before committing suicide

Mumbai: In a case of murder-suicide, a 32-year-old partner of a garment workshop  allegedly killed his wife and toddler son before hanging himself at his residence in suburban Vikhroli.

It is the third incident in the city in a little over a month when a 'depressed' person committed suicide after killing family members, police said.

No suicide note was left behind and the police are trying to ascertain the reason behind the three deaths.

The incident happened around 9.30 am, when Sanjay Sen, was found hanging from the ceiling fan in his rented house in Vikhroli. The body of his wife Pooja (30) was found lying on the floor while that of his two-year-old son Tejas was found on the bed.

Both Pooja and Tejas had strangulation marks on their necks, police said.

Deputy Police Commissioner Sanjay Shintre said, "The landlord Mangesh Ambekars son had gone to Sens residence to play with Tejas around 9.30 am. When no one opened the door, he peeped through the window and found Sanjay hanging following which he informed his parents."

According to the police, Sanjay and Pooja, who met each other when they worked at the same zari manufacturing unit in the Subhash Nagar area of Vikhroli, had a love marriage three years back.

Ambekar stated that he had invested the money in the garment manufacturing unit and Sanjay was given the responsibility of managing it.

Earlier, two such incidents had taken place in the city.

On April 16, Deepti Chauhan (34), a resident of seven-storey Alaknanda co-operative society in suburban Dahisar, went to the terrace of the building and flung her five-year-old son Siddhesh from there before jumping herself.

Police arrested four persons including Deepti's husband and in-laws on charges of abetting suicide.

On March 8, a 32-year-old chartered accountant Nidhi Gupta flung her two children to death before jumping herself from the 19th floor of a residential building in suburban Malad here.

Nidhi's parents had alleged that she was being tortured and lodged a police case against five people following which her husband Pawan Gupta and sister-in-law Sunita were arrested on charges of abetting suicide and dowry harassment.
