Thousands of faithful gathered for the Thamukku Perunnal at St George Jacobite Syrian Cathedral here have signed under a request for a new dam in Mullaperiyar on a 25-metre-long white cloth to be sent to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.
Amidst the joyful moments of Thamukku Perunnal, senior religious leaders, including Kochi Diocese supreme Joseph Mar Gregorios, spent a few moments to share the anxiety over the Mullaperiyar dam. "The basic right to live is what is under threat for the people who reside near the dam," said Dr Kuriakose Mar Theophilos. "The fearful situation is not at all a creation of the media, "he said.
