Mumbai: As actor Salman Khan was today held guilty of running over homeless men sleeping on a pavement in Mumbai in 2002, the man who owned responsibility for the accident, his driver Ashok Singh, was staring at a perjury charge.

Ashok Singh drove the actor to court this morning. The prosecution is likely to file charges against him for making a false statement in court.

Ashok Singh in March told the court that he was driving the actor's Toyota Land Cruiser on the night of September 28, 2002.

"I was driving when the tyre burst and the brake jammed. The car went over the steps. I saw that people were trapped beneath. I got out of the right side and Salman too got out of the right side as the left door was jammed," the driver said, appearing in court for the first time in 12 years.

He said the police never listened to him and blamed Salman Khan.

The prosecution alleged that the driver had taken money to give a false testimony.

Ashok Singh had told the court that he was responsible for the accident and he "felt bad that Salman had to go through all the trouble."

He also denied taking money to confess in court.
