Papers Thrown At Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan By Samajwadi Lawmaker Akshay Yadav

Speaker Sumitra Mahajan adjourned the Lok Sabha after Akshay Yadav threw papers in her direction.

New Delhi: Samajwadi Party lawmaker Akshay Yadav was censured on Thursday after he threw bits of paper at Speaker Sumitra Mahajan as opposition parties continued their protests against the notes ban when the parliament convened.

An angry Ms Mahajan adjourned the house.

Shortly after the Lok Sabha met for the day, opposition members trooped towards the Speaker's podium and shouted slogans against the ban on old 500 and 1000 rupee notes by the government.

The Speaker requested members to return to their seats but they refused. An angry Akshay Yadav threw papers in the Speaker's direction.

When the House reassembled, the Speaker reprimanded Yadav for his conduct.

"This conduct is not proper on the part of the member and also for the dignity and prestige of the House," Speaker Sumitra Mahajan said. Expressing her "displeasure", the Speaker warned Mr Yadav to refrain from such activities in future.

Ms Mahajan then disallowed the notices for adjourning the work of the House to debate demonetisation, creating a huge uproar in opposition benches.

The Speaker then adjourned the house for the day.

A united opposition has disrupted Parliament proceedings every day since parliament convened for the winter session last week.
