Faizabad:
The oldest litigant in the Babri masjid case in Supreme Court, Mohammad Farooq, passed away due to old-age related ailments in Faizabad. He was 100.
Farooq died last evening and was buried at a grave yard close to the disputed site.
Farooq's father, Mohammad Zahur, was one of the original complainant regarding the placing of the idols of Lord Rama in Babri Masjid in December 1949.
Uttar Pradesh's Additional Advocate General and convenor of Babri Masjid Action Committee, Zafaryab Jilani, told that Mohammad Saleem, the eldest son of late Farooq, may inherit his legacy of the case and may become litigant in place of his father.
Farooq was one of the seven main litigants from Muslim side in the case.
Now the rest six main litigants are - Hashim Ansari, Ashhad Rashidi, Maulana Mahfuzurur Rahman, Mufti Hasbullah, Mahmud and Sunni Central Waqf Board.
Farooq's five sons are engaged in making famous 'khadaun' (wooden slippers) used by sadhus and mahants during Puja in temples.
The wooden sleepers made by them are supplied in large numbers to temples of Ayodhya.
