Govt sets up high-level panel to probe black money

New Delhi: The Centre has informed the Supreme Court that a multi-disciplinary agency has been set up to probe the black money issue.

A team of top officers will be part of the high-level committee and Secretary, Department of Revenue, will give status report to the court.

The top officials of the revenue department, the CBI, Intelligence Bureau and the RBI will be part of the committee.

Secretaries of Home, Defence and the Foreign Secretary will also be consulted on important issues.

Centre's move to appoint the committee comes after the Supreme Court made it clear that it needs SIT to probe the black money case.

During the last hearing, the Supreme Court had hit out at the Centre and pointed out that it has been concentrating only on one individual - Pune-based businessman Hasan Ali - and nothing has been done on other cases.

In what's intended to be a wake-up call, the Supreme Court rebuked the government over doing far too little to investigate those Indians who've tunneled black money in foreign bank accounts.
