Army Pays Tribute To Siachen Martyrs As Bodies Arrive In Delhi

The bodies of the soldiers who were martyred in the avalanche on Siachen glacier have arrived in New Delhi.

New Delhi: The mortal remains of all nine soldiers killed in an avalanche on the Siachen glacier have reached Delhi today. PM Modi, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, senior army officials and other dignitaries will pay homage to the bravehearts at the Delhi Airport.

The bodies will be sent to Pune later this afternoon where the Army has organised a ceremony at the National War Memorial.
 

On Tuesday, the bodies will be flown to their respective destinations, including Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Madurai, Chennai and Thiruvananthapuram.

Nine soldiers were killed when an avalanche hit the army's Sonam post at Siachen on February 3. Lance Naik Hanumanthappa, who was rescued alive after being buried under snow for six days, died on February 11 in an Army Hospital in Delhi.
