Army Sets Up 'Naujawan Clubs' Across Valley To Give Skill Training

Army is planning to take the clubs to remote inaccessible areas.

Srinagar: This housewife from north Kashmir's Baramulla didn't have any skill for doing a job but this initiative from the Army has changed her life.

Mehmooda learnt stitching at 'Naujawan' or youth club run by the Army and now makes her living through this skill. "My aim is to learn some skill, I had no training for doing any work, but now I have learnt stitching ladies suits and shirts at this club."

In an effort to reach out to youngsters in Kashmir, the Army has set up the clubs - centres where vocational training is imparted free of cost.

A total of 70 Naujawan clubs are being set up across the Valley which also double up as centres for recreation and exchange of ideas.

People are trained free of cost at these clubs in six different vocations - hospitality, retail, computer hardware, basic computers, English speaking, fashion designing.

Army is planning to take the clubs to remote inaccessible areas.

"Chinar Naujawan club has also been instituted which moves across various villages and far flung areas of Baramulla and it also houses dongle based internet connectivity as well as library," said PS Shergill, Commanding Officer.
