Election Results 2014: My Son Will Lead India Towards Development, Says Narendra Modi's Proud Mother

Gandhinagar: Narendra Modi is set to become India's next prime minister - his BJP and its allies are heading towards more than 300 seats in the Lok Sabha. A majority of 272 is needed to form the government. (BJP Set to Cross Half-Way Mark on its Own)

His mother, Hiraben, was seen praying today.

Mr Modi, 63, currently serving a fourth consecutive term as chief minister of Gujarat, is watching the election results on television at his home in Gandhinagar. Sources say he will visit her soon. (Modi at Home in Gandhinagar, Watching Television for Now)

""He has my blessings and he will lead the country towards development," she said.

Mr Modi has spoken in his campaign of being the son of a lower-caste tea seller and has said his mother supported the family by working in neighbouring houses.  She travelled by autorickshaw to vote in the national election in Gandhinagar. Mr Modi has trounced the Congress, whose campaign was fronted by Rahul Gandhi.
