Delhi Police launches new people-friendly e-initiative

Delhi: Having trouble finding your way to a police station in the national capital?

An interactive map unveiled by Delhi Police today on its web site will help you find the route to the nearest police station which will also be available on smart phones soon.

The map is part of a state-of-the-art platform 'Know your Police Station' developed in association with Microsoft in the website www.delhipolice.nic.in.

Unveiling the new e-initiative, City Police Commissioner B K Gupta said it is part of their "progressive, innovative and responsive" policing policy.

Public can avail details of how to reach a particular police station and who is the Station House Officer and his contact details.

There is also feedback provision in the platform in which public can provide information about crime prone areas, any organised crime like gambling or illegal sale of liquor and accident prone areas.

"It will be optional for the person giving information to disclose his identity. We are only bothered about the information," Gupta said.

The web platform will also help in finding out the jurisdiction of a police station on a GIS Map as well as the route to the jurisdictional police station from a given originating point.

About the feedback system, Gupta said it is not for complaining about routine affairs but about providing information about general trend. He said it will be monitored at the level of police stations and districts.

"The feedback will help police in identifying problem areas and take appropriate measures. This outreach to public is also aimed at getting their active involvement in policing," he said.

He said public has been complaining about not knowing the jurisdiction and route to the police station. "As we know that many people don't know these, we thought of coming out with this web application," he said. He said the application will also be available in smart phones so that people on the move will be benefited.
