Uttar Pradesh: Nine die in rain-related incidents, flood situation worsens

Lucknow: Nine people died on Tuesday in rain-related incidents in Uttar Pradesh where flood situation aggravated due to rise in the level of major rivers in several districts, affecting road and railway traffic.
    
Three died in Ramabai Nagar, two deaths each were reported from Badaun and Shahjahanpur, while one each from Bareilly and Pilibhit, officials said.
    
The deluge situation worsened further in the western districts of the state with around 177 villages of Bareilly, Badaun, Pilibhit and Shahajanpur inundating in flood water as 40,000 cusec water from Kalagarh dam were released into river Ramganga.
    
The National Highway connecting Delhi with Lucknow and Bareilly-Badaun road remained closed in the wake of the flood, which washed away Narain bridge on Kiccha river.
    
Flood waters also entered Akashwani and Doordarshan centres in Bareilly.
    
Pauri-Delhi National Highway in Muzaffarnagar has been closed for traffic due to floods.
    
Ganga and Solani rivers were flowing above the danger mark in the district.
    
According to the Central Water Commission, Ganga is was flowing at danger mark in Fatehgarh, Kannauj, Kanpur, Rae Bareilly and is rising at Allahabad, Mirzapur, Varanasi and Ghazipur.
    
Ramganga is flowing above the red mark in Moradabad and Shahjahanpur and is rising menacingly in Bareilly.
    
Yamuna is flowing above danger mark at Mathura and is swelling at Allahabad and Banda.
    
Sharda river is flowing at danger level in Kheri, while Ghaghara is above the red mark at Barabanki, Ayodhya and Ballia.
    
Fatehgarh received maximum rainfall of 44.6 mm in the state, officials said.
