Two rape cases in two days in Mumbai

Mumbai: A minor and a widow were allegedly raped in Mumbai in two separate incidents.

A 36-year-old widow was raped at her residence in Prabhadevi area in Central Mumbai on Friday. The accused Prakash Amdeskar has been arrested.

Businessman Prakash, who also lives in the same area where the victim stays, had knocked at the victim's door at 5 am, police said. As she opened the door, Prakash barged into the house and raped her. After the crime, he escaped from the spot.

"We have arrested Prakash on charges of rape. The victim was sent for medical examination and the reports are awaited," NM Joshi Marg police station, Senior Inspector Vasant Tajne said.

In the second incident, a 10-year-old girl was raped by a 15-year-old boy in suburban Ghatkopar on Thursday, police said, adding that the accused was arrested on Friday.

The boy working in a grocery shop in Ghatkopar lured the victim with biscuits, took her to an isolated place and raped her, police said.

Noticing blood on her private parts, she revealed about the incident to her family members, police said, adding that a manhunt was launched for the accused since Thursday and he was caught Friday morning. Further probe was on, they said.
