Mumbai: Man commits suicide after killing wife

Mumbai: A Kandivli resident strangulated his wife and then committed suicide by hanging himself. The incident came to light on Sunday.

According to the police, Satish Galphode, 29, a contract labourer, resided with his parents and brother Sunny at Sector 2 in Charkop, Kandivli (West). His wife, Nikita, 27, worked in a bar. For over a year, Nikita and her two children had been living with her mother.

Sunny and his parents had gone to their native place, Osmanabad, for Diwali. On Friday, Satish called up Sunny and told him that he was ending his life. However, when Sunny tried to call him back, there was no response. He rushed back, reaching Mumbai on Sunday. When he got a foul smell from inside their house, he immediately informed his elder brother Hemant who lived in Goregaon.

"After Hemant came to Charkop, they informed the police. The police broke open the door and found the two bodies," said an officer from Charkop police station.

The bodies have been sent to Bhagwati Hospital for post-mortem. "Preliminary investigations say that Satish first strangulated his wife and then hanged himself from the ceiling fan," said senior police inspector D Shinde.

According to the police, Satish in his suicide note has mentioned that he killed his wife and was ending his life. He also wrote that nobody is to be held responsible for their deaths.

"Satish married Nikita two and a half years ago. However, for over a year Nikita had taken their two children, a three-year-old son and an eight-month-old daughter, and was staying with her mother in Sec 7, Charkop," said Hemant.

"Satish also mentioned in his suicide note that Niikita's mother, who also works in a bar, wanted to sell their two children for Rs50,000 and this led to frequent fights between them," said Hemant. "Satish mentioned in his note that his two children should be handed over to his parents."
