Congress changes candidates in three Assembly seats in Punjab

New Delhi: Congress on Monday changed three of its candidates in Jalandhar and Amritsar and also announced its candidate for the Bhoa (SC) seat.

Former Amritsar Mayor Sunil Datti was given the party ticket from Amritsar East Assembly seat in place of Simpreet Kaur Bhatia, the widow of a Youth Congress worker of the area.

Four-time municipal councillor from Jalandhar, Rajinder Beri was given the party ticket for the Jalandhar Central Assembly seat in place of former MLA Raj Kumar Gupta, whose candidature was announced earlier.

The party also changed its candidate from Amritsar north and granted the ticket to Karamjit Singh Rintu, president of the Amritsar Youth Congress (Rural), in place of Ashwani Kumar Pappu, who was announced earlier.

The candidature of Balveer Ram Fatehpuria was announced for the Bhoa (SC) Assembly seat, which was undeclared so far.

Yesterday, the party had declared the candidatures of Vinay Mahajan from Sujanpur and Gurpreet Kaur Dhaliwal from Mansa Assembly constituency. Dhaliwal is the daughter-in-law of Congress leader Sher Singh Gaggowal, who represented the seat earlier.

Congress is also considering changing the candidatures in five more seats, sources said.
