Four killed in gas tanker-lorry collision in Karnataka

Kolar, Karnataka: Four persons were killed and another injured in a collision between a gas tanker and lorry at Narasimhatheertha, 35 km from Kolar on Monday, a top police official said.

The impact of the collision was so severe that a bus and a lorry parked nearby suffered extensive damage besides window panes of two petrol stations, Superintendent of Police Ramvilas Sapat said.

Traffic on National Highway-four on Bangalore-Chennai road was disrupted due to the accident, he said.

Fire tenders had been called to douse the fire due to gas leak, police said.

According to eye-witnesses, the tanker was believed to be transporting carbon dioxide from Vijayawada to Bangalore.

However, the leak did not came to the attention of the driver of the tanker, who was among the killed, police said.

Electricity authorities have snapped power supply in the area as a precautionary measure, police said.
