Haryana Assembly Elections: 2094 Nominations for 90 Seats

Chandigarh: On the last day of filing of nomination papers for Assembly Elections in Haryana, a total of 1239 nominations were filed, taking the total number to 2049 for the 2014 assembly elections.

The prominent leaders who filed their nominations were Randip Singh Surjewala (Congress) from Kaithal, Abhay Singh Chautala (Indian National Lok Dal) from Ellenabad, Naina Chautala (Indian National Lok Dal) from Dabwali, Captain Abhimanyu (BJP) from Narnaund and Anil Vij (BJP) from Ambala Cantt.

Naina Chautala, wife of Ajay Chautala has become first woman from the Devi Lal clan to contest elections. The achievement comes at a time when Ajay Chautala is serving a jail term in the teacher recruitment scam. She has been fielded by the party from her husband's seat.

Nominations picked up only on the last three days as most candidates waited for the auspicious dates during Navratras and avoided the Shraadh period to play it safe.

Haryana Chief Electoral Officer Shrikant Walgad informed that the scrutiny of nomination papers would be carried out on September 29 and candidates would be able to withdraw their candidature by October 1.

The polling will be held on October 15 and counting of votes would be held on October 19. The process of elections would come to an end by October 22, he added.
