Kolkata: As a storm rages over Trinamool Congress MP Tapas Pal's shocking comment on rape, another leader from Mamata Banerjee's party has been caught on camera asking workers to kill intruders in their homes.

A Bengali news channel aired footage in which the Trinamool's Bankura district head Arup Chakraborty is seen telling partymen, "If any outsider enters your house, cut him down, sacrifice him, (he uses the word bali) I will take care of that, you don't have to worry."

He said this in Manudih village, where BJP workers had recently clashed with members of the Trinamool. Local cops were reportedly present when Mr Chakraborty made the remark.

Yesterday, a channel aired footage in which Tapas Pal, a two-term MP from Krishnanagar in West Bengal, warned members of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) men to "beware" of him as he would not "spare you and destroy your entire clan" and send  "my boys to rape your women". Political parties and activists have sought that Mr Pal resign as Lok Sabha MP; some have demanded that he be arrested. The Trinamool Congress's Mukul Roy was quoted by PTI as saying that the party has asked Mr Pal to give an unconditional apology for his comment. (Tapas Pal's Rape Remark: Who Said What)

Several Trinamool leaders have in the past been in the eye of a storm for their violent speeches.

Trinamool's Birbhum district chief Anubrata Mandal has been accused in the murder of a panchayat member days after he asked his party workers to "attack the houses of rivals and bomb the police if they prevent you".

Infamous for his making hate speeches, Mr Mandal had earlier likened CPI-M activists to "rats hiding in burrows".

"The rats are now hiding in their burrows, you should pit the burrows with mud and also use cyanide so they don't come out," Mandal had said a party rally.

Then there is Trinamool legislator from Labhpur in Birbhum district, Manirul Islam, who was in the news last year for publicly claiming he crushed to death three people under his feet and for threatening to behead a Congress leader from the district.
