Noida: woman gang-raped and robbed, two constables among four arrested

The arrested accused stand with their faces covered

New Delhi: A woman was allegedly gang-raped last night at an apartment in Noida in Uttar Pradesh, just across the border from Delhi. Four people, including two constables have been arrested.

The survivor filed a police case this morning against the men who allegedly beat her up, raped her and stole her money and ATM card.

One of the arrested men lived in the flat and was preparing to join the police service. The police said he brought two policemen who were his friends.

"After beating and raping her, they took away the woman's ATM card and withdrew money, which was confirmed by CCTV footage," said Arun Kumar, a senior Uttar Pradesh police officer.

The case came on a day when the first verdict in the December 16 gang-rape was delivered. A juvenile court sentenced one of the six accused, who was 17 at the time of the fatal attack, to three years in a remand home after finding him guilty of rape and murder.

The attack on a young student and her male friend on a moving bus in Delhi stunned India and ignited massive street protests, which resulted in an overhaul of archaic laws to punish sexual crimes.
