Delhi: Businessman Dies After Car Catches Fire

New Delhi: A 30-year-old businessman was charred to death when the car he was driving suddenly caught fire at Outer Ring road in Delhi's Mangolpuri area last night, police said.

The deceased identified as Anil Moga (30) was the owner of a shop of wholesale gift items at Sadar Bazar in Central Delhi and lived with his family in north-west Delhi's Pitampura area.

"Last night, left from home at around 10 pm on his white Toyota Etios car. When he reached near Peera Garhi Chowk on the outer ring road his car suddenly caught fire. The blaze spread so quickly that neither was he able to open the car from inside nor people trying to help him could open the gate from outside," said a police official.

According to an eyewitness, either the doors of the car were jammed or Moga panicked. By the time fire tenders arrived at the spot and doused the fire, he was totally charred. The incident caused a traffic jam on the road and two-way traffic had to be merged on a single carriage way. Police said it received a call at 10:35 pm while the fire department received a call at 10:30 pm. He was taken to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

"The car might have caught fire either due to some short circuit in its wiring or it may have started from the engine. We are investigating the issue," the official said.

The body has been sent for post-mortem and a case has been registered at Mangolpuri police station.
