CWG: A new-look website for Delhi Metro
New Delhi: A completely re-designed website with interactive features containing all information on Delhi Metro, a special booklet for tourists and connecting 10 Commonwealth Games games venue with the transport system.

These are the main features of the Delhi Metro's "Big Plan of Action" for the 15-day Games extravaganza that begins on October 3 in the national capital.

The new-look website www.delhimetrorail.com has been designed on the lines of the sites of Hong Kong, Tokyo and Singapore Metros, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Managing Director E Sreedharan said at its launch.

He also released a special booklet 'A Capital Ride to the Games' in English and Hindi which has all important information about the Games and details of stadiums, its Metro connectivity, heritage sites, shopping hubs, Metro Museum, Railway Stations, Restaurants and Hotels.

"We have taken good points from the Metro websites. The new website and the booklet are very important initiatives and are a prelude for the CWG. They are part of the preparatory work... the booklet is a folder which has a lot of information," he said.

DMRC spokesperson Anuj Dayal said the Delhi Metro studied the website of these Metros before re-designing the website, which now has an international look.

Designed to help foreign visitors and others from rest of the country to get to know about the city and the Games, the website will have an interactive route map which will help the commuters to look for routes and fares in a easy manner.

Besides, the website has a special section on the Commonwealth Games and tourist spots in Delhi.

"This section has all the information related to the facilities to be provided by the Delhi Metro to its commuters during the Games along with the details of Metro connectivity to the venues," Sreedharan said.

The new look of the site, which can be accessed in both English and Hindi, is very contemporary and attractive and has been designed to make it more user friendly with all the relevant information upfront with easily accessibility, Dayal said.

"The DMRC felt the need to revamp the website keeping in view its expanding network and the growing popularity of the website among the commuters who view it in search of information like Metro routes, fares, timings and facilities," he said.

The special booklet, which will be available free of cost to everyone at Metro stations, major hotels, restaurants and other places of importance, has a Metro network map and details of heritage sites, cultural centres and other tourist attractions in the national capital.

The booklet has details about the Games venue and how it is being connected with the Delhi Metro. The Metro will provide connectivity to 10 of the 11 stadias in the national capital.

It also has details about general information on the national capital like foreign exchange points in Delhi and numbers of Radio Taxi services.

On the website, the route map is also available in an easily download format for the commuters.

Apart from this, all major information is available on the home page itself in the form of drop down menus which will help the commuter in finding the desired information easily without having to surf much, Dayal said.

There are separate sections on the Metro Citizens Forum volunteers' programme, the Metro Museum, the Right to Information Act and a photo gallery.

"The website will also have a lost and found section and an interactive feedback section...The new look of the site is very contemporary and attractive and has been designed to make it more user friendly with all the relevant information upfront with easily accessibility," he said.

The new website has been based on Content Management System (CMS) which will ensure quick updation of the site. It has been designed and developed by Netcomm Labs Pvt. Ltd. in collaboration with DMRC.
