Why American Porn Star Whitney Wright Visited Iran Despite The Risk Of Death Penalty

The adult star took pictures of herself extensively in the Iranian capital

New Delhi:

An American adult star is facing accusations of promoting propaganda for Iran's government following a social media post about her recent trip to the Islamic Republic, despite the risks of being arrested and sentenced to the death penalty because of her profession.

Whitney Wright (real name Brittni Rayne Whittington) said she "had to visit" the embassy where Iranian students held staff members hostage for 444 days after the 1979 Islamic Revolution, according to Sky News

The adult star took pictures of herself extensively in the Iranian capital. But engaging in such activities theoretically exposes her to criminal charges that could carry severe penalties, including the death penalty.

She shared several pictures of her visit on her Instagram, including one where she adhered to the Iranian law by wearing a headscarf and conservative clothing, standing beside a lowered US flag at the former embassy.

Iranian authorities deny arranging Whitney Wright's visit, stating she got a visa like any other foreigner, and they were unaware of her "obscene" profession. Ms Wright's posts upset Iranian exiles, especially given her history of criticising Israel.

However, in a recent update on her Instagram stories, Ms Wright clarified that she is no longer in Iran, having moved to another location.

"Anyways IDK half of what is being said here, but I'm no longer in Iran, but elsewhere- and it's hilarious to me that they're pulling reels and using photos of me from when I was in Morocco, Los Angeles, etc. and combining them with the photos I took in Iran," she wrote.

Masih Alinejad, a US-based activist who has experienced assassination and kidnapping attempts by Iran, criticised Ms Wright for her visit to the country.

She wrote on X, formerly Twitter, "American porn star Whitney Wright is in Iran, my birth country, where women are killed for simply showing their hair and being true to themselves.

Whitney has published several photos on herself completely covered up on Instagram. On her post she called me a warmonger and tells women: 'If you respect the law, you will be safe in Iran.' Iranian women don't want to obey a discriminatory law."

She continued, "Rosa Parks stood up against racist laws in America and became a symbol of resistance. We the women of Iran want be like Rosa Parks and not Whitney Wright. And by the way, the true warmongers are the agents of the Islamic Republic who will execute you if you be true to yourself."
