Israel-Iran Conflict Highlights: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Sunday said he spoke with his Iranian and Israeli counterparts and discussed the situation in West Asia. His telephonic conversation with the two leaders came almost 24 hours after Iran attacked Israel.
During his call with Iran Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, Mr Jaishankar also discussed the release of 17 Indian crew members on a cargo ship seized by the Iranian military on Saturday.
"Spoke to Iranian FM. Took up the release of 17 Indian crew members of MSC Aries. Discussed the current situation in the region. Stressed the importance of avoiding escalation, exercising restraint and returning to diplomacy. Agreed to remain in touch," Mr Jaishankar said on X.
In a separate post, he said, "Just concluded a conversation with Israel FM Israel Katz. Shared our concern at the developments yesterday. Discussed the larger regional situation. Agreed to stay in touch."
Iran launched more than 300 drones and missiles at Israel in an unprecedented attack late Saturday in a major escalation of the long-running covert war between the regional foes.
The Israeli military said that 99 percent of the launches had been intercepted. While 170 drones and 30 cruise missiles were shot down before they reached Israel, a few of the 110 ballistic missiles did get through, injuring 12 people.
Iran had repeatedly threatened to retaliate against Israel for a deadly April 1 air strike on its consulate building in Damascus.

Saudi, Qatar Ministers Discuss Regional Escalations With Iran Counterpart
Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah received a phone call from his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amirabdollahian late on Sunday, during which they discussed developments in the region after Iran launched drones and missiles on Israel, Saudi state news agency reported.
"During the call, repercussions from developments in the situation in the region and the increasing escalation against the backdrop of the crisis in Gaza Strip were discussed," a statement from Saudi's foreign ministry said.
Qatar's foreign minister also held a call with Amirabdollahian on Sunday, expressing deep concern over developments in the region and reiterating their commitment to support efforts at achieving stability on all levels, Qatari state media reported.
Iran Tells UN Israel Attack Was "Self-Defense," Had "No Choice''
Iran's United Nations envoy told the Security Council Sunday that the Islamic republic was exercising its "inherent right to self-defense" in its unprecedented attack on Israel.
"The Security Council... failed in its duty to maintain international peace and security" after Israel's apparent strike on an Iranian consulate in Damascus earlier this month, Amir Saeid Iravani said.
Therefore, Tehran "had no choice" but to respond, he said, adding that his country does "not seek escalation or war," but will respond to any "threat or aggression."
At UN, Israel Urges All Possible Sanctions Against Iran

Iran Airports Cancel Flights Until Monday Amid Tensions With IsraelSeveral Iranian airports including Tehran's Imam Khomeini International have cancelled flights until Monday, Iranian state media reported today.

Major airlines across the Middle East have announced the cancellation of some of their flights, while having to reroute others as tensions flared in the Middle East with Iran's attack on Israel.
"Dangerous Escalation": Russia Urges "Restraint" As Iran Attacks Israel Russia today urged all sides to "show restraint" after Iran launched an unprecedented attack on Israel.
"We are counting on the regional states to solve the existing problems with political and diplomatic means," the foreign ministry said in a statement.

"The Italian presidency of the G7 has summoned G7 leaders for a video conference early this afternoon", the government said. The G7 groups the United States, Japan, Germany, France, Britain, Italy and Canada.

Iran launched more than 300 drones and missiles towards Israel in its unprecedented attack overnight, injuring at least 12 people, an Israeli army spokesman said Sunday.
"Last night Iran fired over 300 ballistic missiles, UAVs and cruise missiles towards Israel," military spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari told a televised statement, revising an earlier figure of more than 200 launches.
Hagari said 170 drones and 30 cruise missiles were launched, none of which entered Israeli territory, adding that 110 ballistic missiles were also fired and few of them reached Israel.

Yemen's Huthi rebels launched multiple drones at Israel in coordination with Iran, security firm Ambrey said late Saturday, adding that the projectiles were likely timed to reach Israel simultaneously.
