Las Vegas: Same-sex couples are being told not to line up on Wednesday at the marriage bureau in Las Vegas, after the US Supreme Court temporarily blocked gay marriage in Idaho and Nevada.

Clark County Clerk Diane Alba tells The Associated Press it's clear at least for now that she can't issue gender-neutral marriage licenses in the self-proclaimed marriage capital of the world.

An order by Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy came a little more than an hour after Idaho on Wednesday filed an emergency request for an immediate stay.

It halted the effect of a Tuesday ruling by the 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco that declared gay marriage legal in Idaho and Nevada.

In Las Vegas, the Marriage License Bureau had been prepared to begin issuing same-sex licenses beginning at 2 pm.
