An abandoned white van with tinted windows, no license plates and a non-existent law enforcement agency's sign triggered the alert.

The area around 42nd Street between Seventh Avenue and Broadway was cordoned off, as the New York Police Department's bomb squad approached the vehicle using a robot camera.

The police gave an 'all clear' after searching the van.
