Islamabad:

Two persons, including a Deputy Superintendent of Police, were killed and five policemen injured in a bomb blast in Pakistan's troubled North West Frontier Province on Monday.

DSP Asmatullah Khan and a pedestrian were killed when militants targeted a police vehicle with a remote-controlled roadside bomb in Lakki Marwat district, officials said.

Five policemen who were accompanying the DSP sustained critical injuries in the blast. They were taken to hospitals in the nearby cities of Bannu and Peshawar.

The DSP's vehicle and a police van were destroyed in the explosion. Police cordoned off the area after the blast and launched a search for the attackers.

No group claimed responsibility for the attack.
