In a major embarrassment to the UPA government, Rahul Gandhi today denounced the controversial ordinance to negate the Supreme Court verdict on convicted lawmakers as "complete nonsense" and said what "our government has done is wrong".
- It is a desperate damage control exercise. It's only when the revulsion is built, the Congress party is trying to cut its losses. Belated realisation of what the Congress party now calls non-sense. The heads which brought out this non-sense twice in the last one month must roll. It is a charade to show the government can make a mistake, but the Congress's first family doesn't.
Arun Jaitley, BJP 27/9/2013 - Is this a government or a theatrical production? With such drama, the Congress will not be able to hide the government's failures.
Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, BJP 27/9/2013 - It's a political stunt, the timing is questionable. The President was probably returning the ordinance, so someone had to take the credit, and it was him.
Meenakshi Lekhi, BJP 27/9/2013 - Rahul Gandhi has written to me on the ordinance beside making a statement...Issues raised by him will be considered by the Cabinet on my return to India.
Manmohan Singh, Prime Minister 27/9/2013 - Rahul Gandhi has taken this step on high moral and principle ground.
Ajay Maken, Congress 27/9/2013 - We had expressed our views earlier and whatever Rahul Gandhi has said today, I think, is correct.
Nitish Kumar, JD(U) 27/9/2013 - This ordinance was to protect a few individuals, morally it was completely wrong. Now Rahul Gandhi is joining the bandwagon against the ordinance - but it doesn't speak very well of the Congress. It shows no coordination between the party and the government.
Saugata Roy, Trinamool Congress 27/9/2013 - This is an orchestrated move... it demonstrates confusion within the Congress.
Kalikesh Deo, BJD 27/9/2013 - I cannot help but applaud.
Anand Mahindra, industrialist 27/9/2013
