Cyclonic storm Lehar weakens, turns into deep depression

Cyclonic storm Lehar over west-central Bay of Bengal, which was expected to cause extensive damage in coastal Andhra Pradesh, weakened into a deep depression today bringing much-needed relief to people, as its effect may not be as lethal as feared. The system lay centred at 0530 hours today over the west-central Bay of Bengal, about 120 kms east-southeast of Machilipatnam in Andhra coast, according to an IMD bulletin.
