Yet, in northern Scotland, there exists the world's shortest scheduled flight that lasts just 90 seconds. Operated by Loganair airlines, the flight connects the Orkney islands of Westray and Papa Westray. There are no meals served on the flight as it likely lands even before the cabin crew finishes the safety instructions. For around 45 pounds (approximately Rs 5,348), tourists can buy a "sightseer fare" to experience the world's shortest scheduled flight. Ticket prices range between 30-40 pounds (Rs 3,565 to Rs 4,754). However, local residents likely pay less. The flight is remarkably fuel-efficient, burning just 10 kg of fuel at a cost of about 15 pounds. The route is heavily dependent on the weather, and unpredictable conditions often cause delays.
The flight service commenced in 1967 and operates daily, except on Saturdays. The airline uses a Britten-Norman BN2B-26 Islander aircraft, which has a seating capacity of 10 passengers. Pilot Stuart Linklater holds the record for the fastest recorded time on this route, completing the journey in just 53 seconds. Prior to his retirement in 2013, Linklater had accumulated an impressive 12,000+ flights on this route, cementing his legendary status among locals and aviation enthusiasts alike.
