Have you ever dreamt of hitting the road in a caravan? This home-on-the-wheels mode of transport, packed with comfort and convenience, offers a unique perspective on travelling. Usually, caravans are facilitated with a cosy bed, a mini kitchenette and sometimes a compact bathroom, adding adventure and luxury to every journey. Now, Uber commuters can enjoy customised caravan-themed intercity rides with the company's expansion of the limited-edition Intercity Motorhomes.
On Thursday, October 9, Uber announced that it has expanded the caravan-style transport facility to Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Pune. Originally launched for one month in Delhi during the monsoon season, the service proved to be a hit among travellers commuting from one city to another. According to a report by the Times of India, it received 100 per cent occupancy every day and even residents of other cities started inquiring about the same.
Now, Uber has decided to offer the Intercity Motorhomes service to the three other metro cities starting from October 15. The outstation road trips can be booked from October 13. Meanwhile, the National Capital will be enjoying the caravan-inspired ride till December 31 this year.
Every vehicle under the Intercity Motorhomes is equipped with a television, microwave, mini-refrigerator, and lavatory, as per the official press release. It is designed to accommodate four to five passengers along with a driver and a helper. This mode of travel is perfect for riders wishing to bask in luxury and feel at home, despite being away. Catering to those needs, the caravans offered a private, lounge-like experience, also featuring amenities like live ride tracking and 24x7 support.
The top intercity routes, as per the press release, include Mumbai-Pune, Delhi-Agra, Bangalore-Mysore, Lucknow-Kanpur, and Ahmedabad-Vadodara. On the other hand, some of the popular getaways are Agra (Taj Mahal), Mysore Palace, Alappuzha and Munnar. The Intercity Motorhomes service, preferred for quick getaways, family visits, or even business meetings, can be booked in advance through Uber Reserve.
