Indian expatriates living in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) can now look forward to a faster, more secure passport application experience. The Consulate General of India in Dubai has announced the rollout of the Global Passport Seva Programme (GPSP 2.0), a major digital upgrade to India's passport services. The new system came into effect on Tuesday, 28 October 2025.
A Step Towards Digital And Secure Travel
Under GPSP 2.0, Indian passport applicants in the UAE will now receive e-passports embedded with electronic chips containing digitised biometric data. The enhanced passports are designed to speed up immigration clearance and improve data security, aligning with global travel technology standards.
The consulate confirmed that the upgrade aims to make passport services more transparent, user-friendly and efficient for the large Indian community in the UAE.
Streamlined Applications And Faster Processing
The revamped GPSP 2.0 online platform enables applicants to upload their documents, ICAO-compliant photographs and signatures directly to the system, significantly reducing waiting times at BLS Centres.
Minor corrections can also be made at the centres without the need to retype application forms, and without any extra cost.
Applicants have been advised to carefully review the ICAO photograph guidelines before uploading their images to ensure smooth processing.
