Heavy Rains Disrupt Mumbai Flights: Air India, IndiGo, Akasa Air And SpiceJet Issue Travel Advisory

Heavy rains in Mumbai have slowed down the city, and airlines are now asking flyers to keep extra time in hand before heading to the airport. Air India, IndiGo, SpiceJet and Akasa Air on Tuesday put out advisories for passengers, warning about delays and traffic issues due to waterlogging on several routes.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has already issued a red alert for Mumbai, with extremely heavy rainfall expected in some areas. With the city drenched, airlines say operations are taking a hit.

IndiGo posted a note on X (formerly Twitter). It read, "With Mumbai drenched in heavy showers, several routes to the airport are witnessing waterlogging and sluggish traffic. This has, in turn, led to operational challenges, with delays in both departures and arrivals, and we truly regret the inconvenience this may cause. If you're scheduled to travel, we recommend leaving a little earlier and keeping an eye on your flight status via our app or website."

The airline added that its teams are working to minimise the disruptions. "Our teams are closely monitoring the situation and working diligently to keep operations steady. Your safety, comfort, and peace of mind remain our priority, and we deeply value your patience and understanding," they wrote.
Air India wrote on X, "Travel Advisory. Mumbai is experiencing persistent rain, which may affect flight schedules. Check your flight status here before you head out, and allow a little extra time for travel."

SpiceJet issued a similar message for its passengers. The airline mentioned that due to bad weather in Mumbai (BOM), all departures and arrivals, as well as connected flights, could be affected. "Passengers are requested to keep a check on their flight status," the advisory read.

Akasa Air pointed out that it isn't just Mumbai that's seeing weather-related disruptions. The airline said that due to heavy rainfall in Mumbai, Hyderabad, Goa, Pune and Guwahati, traffic congestion on roads is expected. The message advised passengers to leave early. "To ensure a seamless travel experience, we request you to plan for additional travel time to reach the airport well in time for your flight. Please check your flight status," the airline said.
