According to Visit Sweden, activities including cycling, sauna baths, visiting outdoor art museums, going on national trails, and foraging can "reduce stress, improve heart health, regulate sleep, and boost mood.” The prescription guide provides detailed explanations of how 14 particular areas can boost mental wellness.

For example, sleep and mood disorders can be addressed by taking a trip to northern Sweden. To support mood regulation, improve sleep patterns, and “reset the body's circadian rhythm,” the midnight sun in the summer season is a game-changer. Meanwhile, a Swedish vacation in winter can be emotionally cathartic, fostering “a sense of awe,” thanks to the breathtaking Northern Lights illuminating the sky in a myriad of hues.

Musical acts are also prescribed, as studies have indicated that extreme genres, especially death metal, can significantly reduce anger. FYI: Sweden has 428 metal bands per million residents. Those who prefer soft music can enjoy city festivals or countryside festivities, offering “everything from rock to social dancing."

You can apply for the Swedish Prescription through Visit Sweden's website.
