Cyclonic Storm Montha: Odisha Tourism Advises To Postpone Travel Plans Till October 31

As Cyclonic storm "Montha" intensifies over the west-central Bay of Bengal, Odisha Tourism has issued an advisory urging travellers and locals to postpone their travel plans to the state's coastal areas until the end of October. The advisory comes amid forecasts of strong winds, heavy rainfall, and possible disruption of transport services.

Cyclone Montha is expected to make landfall along the Andhra Pradesh coast with wind speeds reaching up to 90-100 kmph. After hitting the Andhra coast, the cyclone will slow down somewhat and move towards Odisha, Dr M Mohapatra, Director General of the IMD, told NDTV. 

Several coastal districts in Andhra Pradesh are already witnessing heavy rain and strong winds as the storm advances. The IMD has placed both states on high alert, urging residents and travellers to remain cautious.

Odisha Tourism Issues Travel Advisory

In a post shared on its official Instagram handle, Odisha Tourism requested all tourists and members of the public to defer travel plans to coastal and cyclone-prone areas from 28 to 31 October 2025.

"Attention, travellers. Due to the developing Cyclonic Storm 'Montha' over the Bay of Bengal, we urge all tourists and the general public to exercise caution while planning your travels to coastal Odisha," the advisory stated.

The tourism board also warned that bus, train and flight services may face temporary suspensions due to adverse weather. Travellers have been advised to check official updates before planning any movement.

Key Safety Measures For Tourists In Odisha

Those currently in coastal Odisha have been urged to remain indoors during heavy rainfall and strong winds. Travellers should keep their phones fully charged, store important helpline numbers (such as police and district administration), and move to designated shelters if directed by authorities.

Authorities have further requested people to avoid beaches, water-based activities, and unnecessary outdoor travel until conditions stabilise.
