A British travel vlogger has drawn attention to littering at a popular scenic spot in West Bengal, sparking a fresh debate about waste management and visitor behaviour at tourist sites in the state. Alex Wanders, a travel creator who documents his journeys on social media, posted a video of his visit to Lover's Viewpoint, a well-known vantage point in Darjeeling, where two rivers meet. The clip, which has gone viral on Instagram, shows Wanders expressing frustration at the amount of garbage strewn around the site.

"It just frustrates me because I keep hearing in my comments, in my DMs, 'Come to the mountains in India. It's where you're going to find the true beauty.' But it's the same here. It's the same treatment of the land. I guess at this point, maybe there's no hope," he says in the video. He also remarks on the irony of litter appearing just metres from dustbins, saying, "I guarantee you there's going to be a bin somewhere super close. Bin, viewpoint. Let's just throw it. Who cares about nature, the planet, the environment?"

Wanders explains in the clip that he was travelling between Darjeeling and Kalimpong and had stopped at the Lover's Viewpoint to take in the landscape. He describes the geographic feature that gives the place its name, noting, "There are two rivers that meet into one, and they do not quite mix immediately." He punctuates the observation with sarcasm about visitor conduct, "Another interesting thing about this place is, of course, we're in India - and where there are many people, a viewpoint, a popular attraction - there's also going to be trash mindlessly thrown."
The Instagram caption accompanying the video reads: "When will it end India?" followed by an expressionless face emoji. The clip has prompted a range of reactions from viewers, many expressing disappointment but some welcoming the spotlight on an ongoing problem.

A concerned viewer commented, "If this video makes just one person think twice about their actions the next time they are in this scenario about to discard their trash like this, then I'm happy."
Another mentioned, "That is sad indeed! The nature looks very beautiful, and I hope the trash-throwing mindset can be changed. Thanks for raising awareness around this!"
