Demanding action against the CBI over the custodial death of Lalan Sheikh, one of the main accused in the Rampurhat massacre, his family demonstrated outside the agency's office in West Bengal's Birbhum district with the body on Wednesday.

Amid a snowballing political controversy over Birbhum killings, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has said she will visit the district on Thursday. PM Modi has condoled the violence and urged state government to take strict action.

The Centre has sought a report on the alleged political violence in Bengal's Birbhum in which eight people died. The BJP is also sending a fact-finding team to probe the biggest instance of violence since Mamata Banerjee's mega victory last year.

In a video message posted on his official Twitter account, the West Bengal Governor called the incident a "horrifying violence and arson orgy" and said he has sought an urgent update on the incident from the state's Chief Secretary.
