Protected Area Permits

Parliament today passed the Wildlife Protection (Amendment) Bill which seeks better management of protected areas and also provides for certain permitted activities like grazing or movement of livestock.

The Arunachal Pradesh government has temporarily stopped issuing Protected Area Permits (PAPs) to foreigners to check the spread of coronavirus, officials said on Sunday, news agency Press Trust of India reported.

An inner line permit is a travel document that is issued by the Government of India for the travel of an Indian citizen into a protected area for a limited period.

The tourism ministry has proposed removing restrictions for foreigners who want to travel to Arunachal Pradesh and parts of Sikkim, minister of state for tourism Alphons KJ has said. The restrictions can be removed only if the home ministry and the defence ministry approve it

Foreign tourists, except those from Pakistan, China and Afghanistan, would now be allowed to visit some of the most pristine locations of the country which, so far, were out of bounds for them without a special permit, officials said today.
