Bihar Grand Alliance Crisis

Nitish Kumar took oath as the Chief Minister of Bihar today for a record eighth time, forming a government with Tejashwi Yadav's Rashtriya Janata Dal and other parties as a new "Grand Alliance". Tejashwi Yadav took oath as his deputy.

Nitish Kumar will take oath as Chief Minister of Bihar today at 2 pm, after he ditched the BJP on Tuesday and announced a new "Grand Alliance" which includes Tejashwi Yadav and other Opposition parties.

The Grand Alliance in Bihar, which includes the state's main opposition parties, seems to have arrived at a consensus over seat sharing ahead of the three-phase state assembly elections on October 28, November 3 and 7.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's party Janata Dal United and Lalu Yadav's Rashtriya Janata Dal are expected to take a stand at separate party meetings today on Tejashwi Yadav's future in the Bihar government that could also decide if the grand alliance sealed ahead of the assembly elections will survive its biggest challenge in two years.

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leaders have requested Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and coalition partner Lalu Yadav to sit together to solve the crisis in the ruling coalition, but the JD(U) on Sunday said "everything is all right".
