To enable maximum utilization of modern communication technology for patient care, teaching, research, and good governance, AIIMS has decided to equip itself with a 5G network by June 30, officials said. A five-member committee has been constituted to expedite the process, said an office memorandum, issued by the director Prof M Srinivas. 

Members of a parliamentary committee on Tuesday quizzed top government officials on whether there is a ban on the purchase of equipment from Chinese vendors for 5G infrastructure in India, sources said.

The British parliament's defence committee said on Thursday that it had found clear evidence that telecoms giant Huawei had colluded with the Chinese state and said Britain may need to remove all Huawei equipment earlier than planned.

Vodafone and BT said they would need a minimum of five years to remove equipment made by Huawei from their British networks, with Vodafone putting the cost of doing so in the "single figure billions" of pounds range.

The Select Committee on 5G deployment roadmap has estimated a budgetary support of around Rs 1,600 crore from the Central government in the first four years of its rollout in the country.

The committee, which was set up in September 2017, submitted its report on 5G connectivity in the country to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT).

The government on Tuesday set up a high-level 5G committee with a mandate to lay down a road map for rollout of the technology by 2020.
