J&K govt to complete driving licence digitisation by June-end

Srinagar: In a bid to improve road safety, Jammu and Kashmir government has directed transport officials to complete digitisation of driving licences by end of next month.

In a meeting held in Srinagar yesterday, Transport principal secretary Sudhanshu Panday directed Regional Transport Officers of Kashmir and Jammu regions to complete digitisation of data relating to computerisation of driving licenses for both commercial and non-commercial vehicles by June-end.

The computerisation programme of the Motor Vehicle department is a centrally sponsored scheme launched in 2004-05. The project was implemented initially in two phases covering the erstwhile 14 districts.

The eight newly-created districts have been taken up under the third phase, officials said.
