Solar scam: Respite for Oommen Chandy government; Opposition cries foul
Kochi: In a big respite for the solar scam-hit UDF government in Kerala, sources say accused Saritha Nair, in her written testimony before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate in Kochi has denied any links with political leaders in this scam.

According to sources, Saritha Nair hasn't named any minister in her written submission. She has alleged main accused Biju Radhakrishan and actress Shalu Menon were the brain behind the scam, and that they have all the money made by cheating several businessmen. Ms Nair has claimed that there is threat to her family from Mr Radhakrishnan and Ms Menon and has asked for protection.

The solar scam involves three accused - Saritha Nair, Shalu Menon and Biju Radhakrishnan - of cheating several businessmen by promising them cheap solar equipment. The three have been arrested on charges of cheating.

The solar scam had rocked the UDF after the suspension and arrest of the Chief Minister's close aide and leaked call records showing Ms Nair in contact with several cabinet ministers and Ms Chandy's office.

The Opposition, which has been demanding the resignation of the Chief Minister for the alleged involvement of his own office, ministers and misuse of his name by the accused, has alleged that there has been a systemic sabotage and attempt to shield the UDF during the investigation processes.
