AIADMK announces its petrol price hike agitation

Chennai: The ruling AIADMK in Tamil Nadu has announced an agitation over the petrol price hike across the state on May 29. The demonstration will be held at 52 places across the state from eleven in the morning in front of Central Government offices. Interestingly, this has been planned a day before the DMK's protest on May 30.

Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa had referred to the hike as the UPA's "anniversary gift to the people" and said it was tantamount to "rubbing salt into the wounds of the common man" who has already been suffering due to the price rise and inflation.

While the AIADMK has ridiculed the DMK, an ally of the UPA for doing precious little about the hike, the DMK has asked the Tamil Nadu Government to reduce the burden on the common man by lowering sales tax on petrol, as the previous regime had done.
