New Delhi: World Environment Day is marked on June 5 each year. According to the official website, the day is the biggest annual event for positive environmental action. World Environment Day was first marked in 1972. 'Connecting people to nature' is the theme for World Environment Day 2017. The aim is to get people outdoors and into nature, to appreciate its beauty and its importance, and to take forward the call to protect the Earth that we share. This year's host country Canada chose the theme.

On World Environment Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted to encourage everyone to nurture a better planet and be committed to 'protecting our environment'.
