"Babu moshai," "roshogolla," and "aami tomake bhalo bashi" - if you (assuming you are a non-Bengali you) have said any of this to a Bengali, this here is for you.

News flash, Bengalis are tired of hearing these cliches from all you other folks.

So listen up. Spare a few seconds from your busy schedules and allow this jan hit mein jaari list to educate you about what not to say to your Bengali friend unless you want to be force-fed roshogollas till you beg for mercy. Which shall not be given.

For starters, do not try Ayushmann Khurrana's "tussi Bong ho?" dialogue from Vicky Donor as a pick up line. It barely worked in the film, it won't IRL.

Among some other things to note are:

-    Not all Bengali names with an A need to be pronounced "aww." Abhishek isn't Aww-bhishek and Abhijeet isn't Aww-bhijeet
-    Not all Bengalis sing, play the guitar and/or are versed in Rabindra Sangeet
-    Not everyone likes to have maachch bhaat
-    And we cannot stress this enough: please stop saying "aami tomake bhalo bashi" to your Bengali friend. You might mean it as a compliment but it is easily one of the top ways to peeve off said Bengali. Seriously, talking in English or Hindi works just alright
-    The lengthy list of Bengali songs you could sing extends beyond Aami Je Tomar (chhin chhin chhin means nothing BTW) and Ekla Cholo Re

And because the list of what offends a Bengali is even longer, just watch the video uploaded by Being Indian on their YouTube channel. They take on most of the major things a Bengali is (extremely) tired of hearing.

Spare yourself and do not make these mistakes again. Or make them at your own peril.

And those who wish to add to the list, please share your thoughts in the comments section below.
