- Foreign couple Iasmin and Tom debunk outdated stereotypes about India on social media
- They highlight India's rapid development and clean, organized urban areas like New Delhi
- The couple refutes the idea that India is unsafe for solo female travelers
A foreign couple has gone viral on social media after debunking some of the outdated stereotypes that foreigners still believe about India. Iasmin and Tom, who have been travelling across Delhi, Aurangabad, Jaipur, Udaipur and Goa, took to social media to correct the stereotypical narratives that have been pushed as truth to the global audience.
The couple urged those planning to visit India not to believe everything they see on social media. Ranging from India being dirty to not safe for solo female travellers, the couple quashed several negative portrayals.
Here Are The 8 'Outdated Stereotypes' Listed By Them:
- One of the biggest stereotypes about India is that it is dirty and chaotic everywhere. However, the foreigners wrote: "India is developing rapidly. You'll find plenty of clean, well-organised areas, even in Delhi. (Pro tip: visit the New Delhi side!)"
- As for India being dangerous for female travellers, Iasmin highlighted that the country can be intense, but it is also one of the most transformative places that anyone would ever visit. She added that most people just want to have a chat.
- The couple said poverty was not exclusive to India and akin to other countries where homeless and beggars can be seen, it does not really define India.
- Street food: No one is cooking with their feet! There is incredible, clean, and delicious street food that you'd be a fool to miss out on.
- Regarding travel in India, the couple stated that booking a higher class railway ticket could make the journey more comfortable and in certain instances, 'better than a hotel'.
- Western food is available widely, and not all Indian food is spicy.
- Times have changed. “Love marriages” are incredibly common now, and with India's massive diversity, every state has different traditions and practices.
- The couple said most foreigners believed that the country had only one language that everybody spoke, when the truth could not be far from it. "India has 22 official languages and over 1,600 dialects! Someone from the north and someone from the south might not even understand each other. It's like a Swede trying to talk to someone from Greece."

Social Media Reactions
As the post gained significant traction online, social media users agreed with the assessment, stating India may not be perfect, but it wasn't anywhere near as bad as portrayed by trolls.
"India is addictive, that's why people throw a story not to visit this beauty. India is conscience (chetna) it teaches you to be grounded and embrace the peace in this organised chaos," said one user, while another added: "Thank you for putting it out there! We aren't perfect, but we're one of the most beautiful lands to be in!"
A third commented: "100% agree people need to stop with those friggin stereotypes, and number two they have better infrastructure with their trains than the United States. Cleaner, they move better and they are just better in general."
A fourth said: "Thanks a lot. We are tired of so much edited and AI-generated videos of hatred videos against India on social media. Just don't come then, we will be absolutely fine. It's too much for us."
