Why this woman delivered baby in cab outside hospital
Mumbai: What should have been a routine delivery turned into a nightmare for a 20-year-old pregnant Borivli resident on Sunday, when she was forced to give birth just outside the walls of a civic hospital because of paperwork.

Tara Verma, who was eight-months-pregnant, gave birth to a baby boy in a taxi just outside KEM hospital on Sunday evening. Both the mother and baby are now in stable condition and have been admitted in the labour ward of KEM hospital.

Verma had gone to Bhagwati Hospital in Borivli for a routine check-up on Sunday, where she had also registered her name for delivery.

The doctor at Bhagwati hospital had asked her to get a sonography test done. After seeing the results, the doctor advised her to go to KEM, as there seemed to be some complications with the baby's position in Tara's womb.

"The doctor in Bhagwati hospital said that Tara would deliver the baby 2-3 hours later, and asked us to go KEM hospital immediately. We left for KEM hospital at around 4 pm. We hailed a taxi as the doctor had said that there was no ambulance available but unfortunately for us, she had gone into labour by then," said Deepak Verma, Tara's husband. "To make matters worse, our taxi's had a flat between Andheri and Jogeshwari. By God's grace we immediately got another taxi and were on our way to KEM Hospital within a few minutes," he added.

Tara, however, gave birth to a healthy baby boy in the taxi itself while her husband was busy filling forms at the out patient department of KEM Hospital at around 5.30pm.

After a shocked Deepak Verma realised that his wife had given birth to their baby in the taxi itself, the hospital's staff rushed to the taxi, cut the umbilical cord and rushed the duo to the hospital.

Doctors at KEM Hospital said Tara Verma had managed to give birth to a healthy baby boy and both were in stable condition.
