Getting Fired Can Be Good For You. Here's How!

No, getting fired isn't the end of the world. In fact, it might just be the start of it!

Getting Fired Can Be Good For You. Here's How!

The thought of getting fired is a dreadful one, something like the end of the world. But is it that bad? Not really. Sure, it can be heart wrenchingly humiliating and the loss of regular income can take a toll on how you run your daily life. But besides that, it really isn't as devastating as we think it is - even Walt Disney, Steve Jobs and Oprah were fired! In fact, there's a lot that getting fired can teach us. So whether you were fired because business was bad, or you upset the wrong person or you just weren't good at your job, you might be onto something good here - hear us out.

1. It thickens your skin

The most natural reaction to being fired is complete and utter misery because of being rejected. We're intuitively drawn to seek approval from others and in office, our bosses and colleagues. Getting fired does the exact opposite of that for you. So once you feel you're at rock bottom, you'll slowly grow from there. You'll learn how to face rejection, gain strength from your sorrow and the tough stuff won't affect you quite as much.

2. It allows you to grow

Especially if you've been in the same job for a while, the comfort of it can breed complacency. So even if you weren't very happy with your job, you were probably too comfortable to shift. Getting fired gives you a chance to move on. It makes you go back to the drawing board, to update your resume and look for a job opportunity that can actually be fulfilling.

3. It gives you a break

If you haven't taken a real break in years (yes, with no work emails!), this is your chance. You can finally use this time to travel, sleep in or visit new spots in your neighbourhood, completely free of disturbances and office emergencies. Giving your mind a break from the everyday monotony of work will allow creativity to flourish and help your productivity.

4. It shows you your real friends

Everyone can seem friendly and cordial in the office but once you are fired, you'll understand who are your real friends are. If they have a heart-to-heart with you and give you their reference for a new opportunity, they are keepers. But if they scurry away at the sign of trouble, it's clear that they didn't ever have your back.
