Shilpa Shetty's popularity on social media has risen and how in the last few years. There are a few things we could attribute her social media success to. Her famous and utterly delicious looking Sunday binges could definitely be one. Who doesn't enjoy watching a woman as fit as Shilpa dig right into a scrumptious meal (mostly dessert) without hesitating? Her constant advocacy of fitness and her tips on how to live a healthier life via yoga and other forms of exercise, another. But what makes Shilpa really stand out and a top favourite amongst many is her unparalleled willingness to experiment in the fashion department.
If you have any doubt, have a look at this Roshni Chopra saree (if we can call it one) Shilpa wore to the sets of a reality show she judges. Dhoti pants below, a crop top above and a semi-saree draped across. If that's not pushing the style envelope, we don't know what is. Her side-parted fishtail braid, floral juttis, multi-coloured stacked bracelets and silver earrings only add to her edgy look.
This isn't the first time Shilpa has experimented with the traditional saree. While Shilpa tries many different outfits and manages to rock most of them, her saree game is particularly strong - and different. At a time when even contemporary actresses are opting for the most traditional versions of the saree (Read: Deepika Padukone and Anushka Sharma's Banarasi sarees), Shilpa seems to be making no bones about the fact that for her it's out with the old and traditional and in with the new and modern.
Have a look at this version of the saree she wore to an event in Colombo, Sri Lanka, a few days ago. There's no doubt that she looked fabulous in this Tarun Tahiliani creation. But is it a saree, is it a gown? Who can tell?
Earlier this month Shilpa also pulled off a Shantanu & Nikhil saree that was far from conventional. The off-shoulder blouse was completed with stripes and flared sleeves and instead of the traditional petticoat, Shilpa wore narrow tapered pants. No pleats, no fuss - Shilpa's 'once-around' saree definitely made a statement.
Shilpa's saree adventures don't stop here. A few weeks ago Shilpa effortlessly dawned a 'saree gown' from Falguni & Shane Peacock with an asymmetrical cut top, tassels around the edges and ruffled feather extensions around the bottom.
Shilpa Shetty might not be in her prime as far as acting in films is concerned, but the fact that she has 5.1 million followers on Instagram and counting says a lot about her stardom. Shilpa is one of the few actresses who, despite having no recent film successes, is still relevant. If anything, she's more visible now than ever before and the curiosity about her and her life is only building. Needless to say, her fashion choices today are appreciated far more than they ever were back in the day.
"Mother, Homemaker, Actor, Entrepreneur, Fitness enthusiast/Wellness influencer & an eternal positive thinker." That lengthy list of words is what Shilpa Shetty uses to describe herself on her Instagram bio. While many of us struggle to be just one thing in our full and hectic lives, Shilpa Shetty manages to do it all - and let's not forget, while staying uber-stylish.
