Its botanical name is Tagetes erecta, and in Sanskrit, marigold is known as Sthulapushpa, Zandu and Genda. In Hindu culture, marigold occupies a pious place and is used for auspicious occasions - from being offered during puja to Goddess Durga to decoration of the house during Diwali. Its bright yellow/ orange colour signifies energy of the sun, a source of vitality, vividity and energy. Its presence in all holy rituals is believed to help eliminate negative energies and lift the mood.
Benefits Of Marigold In Ayurveda
Marigold flowers are cultivated all over India. While it is commonly used for decorative purposes, you will also find its presence in various beauty rituals and culinary purposes. Marigold is cooling by nature because of which it's helpful in balancing Pitta and Kapha Dosha. It has a bitter and astringent taste.
The paste of the leaf is applied over the area to treat muscle pain and rheumatism. It acts as an anti-inflammatory. Cold infusion of the plant is used to treat bronchitis, asthma and cough.
The paste of the leaf is fried in clarified butter or oil and consumed to control bleeding in piles and excessive blood flow during menstruation. Nasya (nasal administration) of fresh juice of leaf is used to stop nose bleeding. Cold infusion of leaves and flowers is used to treat burning urination. Moreover, the cooling effect of this flower is used to treat acne, pimples and sunburns.

DIY Marigold Beauty Remedies
Here are a few DIY beauty remedies with the goodness of marigold.
1. Skin Brightening Oil With Marigold Flowers
Ingredients
Almond oil 80ml
1 large marigold flower
1 glass jar
How To Make
Put almond oil in a jar and dip all petals of marigold flower.
Leave it in the jar for 15 days.
Strain away the petals with a cloth.
Use this oil at night.
2. Marigold Face Mask (Instant Glow)
Ingredients
1/2 cup marigold petals
5 tbsp rose water
1/4 cup peeled apple slices
How To Make
Grind together all the ingredients. Use it as a mask to apply on your face for 15 minutes. And then wash.
3. Marigold Face Mask (Detanning)
Ingredients
1 tbsp marigold paste
1 pinch of turmeric powder
1 pinch of milk cream
1 pinch of honey
How To Make
Mix everything well. Use it as a mask to apply on your face for 20 minutes. Wash your face with water.

4. Marigold Face Pack (Oily Skin)
Ingredients
1 tbsp of marigold flower paste
1 tbsp of yogurt
1/2 tbsp lemon juice
1 tbsp rose water

Let it dry completely. Wash off with lukewarm water.
5. Marigold Face Mask (Normal Skin)
Ingredients
1 tbsp marigold flower paste
1 tbsp gram flour or besan
1 tbsp raw milk
How To Make
Mix all the ingredients well and apply on the face and neck area.
Let it dry completely. Wash off with lukewarm water.
Apply thrice a week.
6. Marigold Face Mask (Anti-Ageing)
Ingredients
1/2 cup marigold petals
Half cup diced papaya
2 tbsp honey
2 tbsp rose water
How To Make
Mix all ingredients in a mixer. Apply on your face and massage for 1 minute.
Let it dry and then wash with water.
7. Marigold Face Mask (Dry Skin)
Ingredients
1 tbsp marigold flower paste
1 tbsp fresh milk cream
1/2 tbsp honey
How To Make
Mix all the ingredients well and apply on the face and neck. Let it dry completely.
Remove the face mask by scrubbing in circular motions. Wash off with lukewarm water.
