If you missed the Golden Globes 2018, there is definitely a lot for you to catch up on. There is the list of winner, the Who Wore What list, funniest jokes... And, of course, the most memorable moments. The whole show was one big powerful moment, yes - we weren't sure where the red carpet blackout was heading earlier, but we're not disappointed with all the wonderful speeches and the special guests who made an appearance. Don't worry, here is more on exactly what you missed:
1. Oprah's speech: "A new day is on the horizon."
We all knew something momentous was coming our way and we weren't disappointed. Oprah Winfrey was presented with the Cecil B. DeMille lifetime achievement honour at the Golden Globe awards 2018 and her acceptance speech touched everyone's hearts, if the wet eyes and standing ovation was anything to go by. It was inspiring and uplifting. It started with a memory of her watching Sidney Poitier being awarded an Oscar at the 36th Academy Awards. She went on to speak about Recy Taylor, a rape survivor who never received justice, and she ended her speech with the #MeToo movement. A few lines from her speech that will forever stay with us are, "For too long, women have not been heard or believed if they dare speak the truth to the power of those men. But their time is up. Their time is up."
2. Natalie Portman and Barbra Streisand pointing out the problem with Best Director nominees
This year is all about speaking up. Natalie Portman, with all the subtlety of a sledgehammer, while presenting the nominees for the Best Director award, very clearly mentions, 'Here are the all-male nominees.' If there was anyone who hadn't noticed the lack of female representation in this category, they sure would have, after Natalie's obvious disapproval. Time's Up on one more front, we think.
Barbra Streisand, before presenting the Best Movie - Drama award, also mentioned that she is the only woman in history to have been presented with a Golden Globe award for Best Director. And that was 34 years ago.
From now on, anytime I need to point out an obvious injustice, that act will be called a "Natalie Portman" #GoldenGlobes #NataliePortman

3. All the activists who walked in with celebrities
Meryl Streep walked the red carpet with NDWA Director Ai-jen Poo. Tarana Burke, founder of the #MeToo movement walked in with Michelle Williams. Emma Stone was accompanied by Billie Jean King, founder of Women's Tennis Associations and an advocate for equal pay. Shailene Woodley brought Calina Lawrence, an activist for the Native American Treaty. These aren't just names - they represented something much bigger when they walked that red carpet. There was a shift, this year, and the focus has been changed - the women we always loved and admired are stepping away from the limelight to give us, and others watching the Golden Globes with rapt attention, some new role models and we couldn't be more grateful for it.
4. Seth Meyers' Weinstein, Spacey, Woody Allen jokes
Being the host of an awards show at time when the environment is so politically and ideologically charged, and with all the extra attention that the Golden Globe has been getting recently, it must have been especially nerve-wracking for Seth Meyers to emcee the event. But when he opened with the punchline, "Welcome, ladies and remaining gentlemen," we knew there was going to be no beating around the bush. His opening monologue itself included jokes about Harvey Weinstein, Woody Allen and Trump's administration. Our favourite, of course, was the one about Weinstein - "Don't worry; he'll be back in 20 years when he becomes the first person to be booed during the In Memoriam."
5. Debra Messing: We stand with Catt Sadler
A month ago, Catt Sadler quit her job at E! Entertainment after learning that her co-host made almost double her salary. And Debra Messing, Sarah Jessica Parker and Eva Longoria decided it was time E!'s people found out exactly what they thought of their discriminating ways. There are many issues being tackled at the Golden Globes this year, and one of them happens to be gender pay disparity. When being interviewed live by E! News, Debra Messing mentioned, "I was so shocked to hear that E! doesn't believe in paying their female co-hosts the same as their male co-hosts." Nicole Kidman, Eva Longoria, Sarah Jessica Parker and Reese Witherspoon also voiced their support for Catt Sadler at the Golden Globes. This is definitely the time to be more transparent and fair in all practices - or be called out on live television. Take your pick.
